Artistic and Executive Director
Alice Hunter, Artistic and Executive Director, founded On•e•on Dance Theatre in 2003. She holds a BA in Folklore from Oberlin College and an EdM from Harvard.
Alice’s dance education began in college with the study of Bharata Natyam (Classical Dance of India), West African dance, jazz, and contact improvisation. Not until graduate school did she begin her intensive study of ballet, modern dance, and composition. She has devoted herself to dance and the creation of choreography ever since.
Alice's choreography has been shown at CRASHarts’ Ten’s the Limit, Harvard University, the Improvisational Solos by Women Series, Shared Choreographers’ Concerts, Devanaughn Theater and Open Floors in both New York and Cambridge. She has performed with the companies of Brenda Divelbliss, Perla Joy Furr/Choreographers’ Group, Margaux Skalecki, Edisa Weeks, Bread and Puppet Theater, Tina Croll and James Cunningham/ The Horse’s Mouth, and others.
Alongside dance, Alice is deeply interested in the plight of refugees and other underprivileged individuals from around the world. From directing the Oberlin-Nicaragua Sister Cooperative Project to managing the Save the Children/ Newcomers’ Network Refugee Youth Program, she has worked to help many refugee children and their familes create lasting positive changes in their lives. Her afterschool programs, summer day camps, and service learning projects have each received national recognition over the years as examples of best practices. She is currently pursuing bringing dance programs to refugee and other underprivleged children living in the United States.
